Hi all, I'm looking for a scale drawings of british tank tracks for MkI-IV preferable individual plates for both narrow and wide track and grousers, this is with a view to producing my own in thin sheet metal to a resonable scale thickness ..........cheers
In the main part of the site, there is an article on the track spud. Also on this site, or another site linked to it is a detailed drawing of the Little Willy, the 20,5", and the 26,5" tracks done by Dick Harley. This drawing needs to be placed in the plans section as it is highly detailed and shows how many other drawings in supposedly premier reference books are wrong! If you can't find it, give me an email and I'll send it to you. Also on the links you should find something on spuds. If all else fails, use the search facility as these items have been discussed in previous threads. Tony
I also posted a spud drawing on the forum, but ignore it because it was Trittion's spud patent, and it is very different from what was actually made and fitted.
Well done, Roger! As usual, on the ball. I've just received a set of the Accurate Armour WWI tracks. They look quite good, but the spacing is different from the drawing. Instead of 7,5" c/c, they have 8,75" c/c! Not that you'd notice the difference once assembled. The underside also has ridges to represent the full track mechanism. According to somewhere on this site, the Mk IV had 90 tracks per side: this pack contains 265 pieces, so the longer tanks such as the tadpole and the MkV should be attainable with one pack.
Has anyone worked out the number of tracks for each size of tank?
Does anyone make replacement track for Revell/RPM FT17s?
The rubber ones don't react well to oil & turps wash, as I found out.
DAS modelling clay is good for weighting tanks to get then to 'sit' on their tracks.
Are there any Airfix MK1 kits out there as Matador are out of stock of them?
Thanks.
Hi Firefly cant help with the ft17 tracks although i think ive seen brass etched ones available but these may have been for the 1/35 rpm kit, sad to hear matador are out of airfix mk1s this may prove a problem for them unless they decide to make there own kit! To get the airfix kit I would suggest ebays i have recently seen several going there although you may have to search a bit heres one i found earlier:
I followed a link to tanks and tracks shop from emhar MK4 additions ,they have resin track units for FT17s. This gave me the idea to kit bash Hat & RPM, I'll let you know how it goes;probably cheaper and easier than Czech resin. Thanks for the link to German ebay,

Hi Firefly, I thought of this as well and its my intention to Kit bash a couple of Hät kits with parts from the Rpm Ft17 kits and visa-versa, although i dont really mind building the track units but they are a P.I.T.A as things keep breaking, i reckon your right about the resin tracks why bother when you get 2 sets of fairly good ones in a Hät kit?......at the moment im building the Rpm Ft17 with berliet turret it has lots of spares(2 turrets and the parts for the 6ton m1917, reno and renault version) that will find their way onto some hät ft17s.....usually I replace the glacis plate, drivers visor and hatches on the hat kit...
There was also a very nice resin Mk1 male from i believe an italian firm but they recently closed shop and I've never been able to find one...perhaps someone else can help here, also checkout the kit news on this site...

It was made by Il Principe Nero, with the master by Gabriele Zenoni. Gabriele's page can be viewed here (scroll down a bit for the Mk I). I managed to win one on eBay a while ago, it's a beauty. And yes, it's OOP...
Hi, Matador managed to find an Airfix Mk1 in a stocktake, I've bottled out of detailing the tail. So,it's being built up as C21 The Perfect Lady with the Matador conversion parts. Male sponsons have gone onto the Emhar MkIV male to get a MkIII male with Matador tracks & brass exhaust covers. RPM TSF is coming on,suspension units weren't that bad,but the plastic I found soft but brittle. Hat FT17 is built ,painted & weathered ,just needs a base & photographing. How's the metal track project going ? TTFN
Hi Firefly, at the moment I havent gone any further just not had the time.. although ive been thinking about it... seperate plates or a strip? that is the question.......
Hi Ironsides, A strip would probably be less of a faff to assemble but would need a bit of overlap,I think. I found the Emhar track about 1/2 a plate short, but that is probably me. Would the plates be etch,or some sort of stamped affair? TTFN
Hi Firefly, would I be right in saying there is already a brass etched track set available in 1/72 for the mkI-IV tanks, if not then this would probarbly be the way to go, I was thinking of stamping individual plates! this is not a problem but would require a suitable tool and naturally would take a fair amount of time producing the track set.....
