I downloaded the plans of the Christie M1919 tank,and I'll scratchbuild it;can someone help me with the paint scheme and/or markings?in wich army it served?. Regards.
Hello glad to have you aboard. The Christie M1919 was only build in the prototype stage; it was never sold to any army. Mr. Christie did show it to the US Army and US Marines at one stage, but because of all of the problems it had, and the major cut backs in the military at the time, no one showed any interest beyond, watching the trials. Later Christie returned with the Christie M1921 built on the same chassis. Unfortunately no one showed interest in his designs until his M1931, which we know later became the bases of the BT series tanks in the Soviet Union. Now on to your questions, only one Christie M1919 was built, no official markings have ever been discovered.. Color?? Not really sure, some experts state it was given a wash of standard dark green OD, the first versions of the color, almost a Marine Green.. Others state it was a natural steel color, with small patches of rust peaking through. And probably the most reliable source states it was painted in a light primer gray color. I know this may not have been the answers you were searching for, but the M1919 will make a very interesting Scratch-build. I my self have scratch-built a M1921, which is my favorite Christie vehicle, besides his Self-propelled artillery model of 1918. Good Luck on your project, and post pictures if you are able. Thanks for your words,Tim R,and of course for the extensive reply. According with it,I think that the best scheme will be green OD (instead natural steel with rust or gray primer) with a small one digit number. I'll post pictures according to the progress. Thanks again and regards.
