Simulating Brass
Permalink

Was wondering what techniques can be used to simulate brass on a plastic casting.  For example, I'm working on a few WW1 softskin vehicles with plastic parts and would like to paint realistic radiators, headlamps, and hubcaps.

Hi Al !

Have You allready tried to mix some parts of humbrol gold with black or copper

to darken the shiny gold effect in lifelike brass.

The more complicate way is the use of elecrolitical system- but in fact of

often use for many modells a good invest .wink

The tools are offered in many shops of elecronic parts for platin-self building.

It works even on plastics by covering the material with a electric leading base cover.

Best regards

Gerd

One of the best metallic paints I've used are the Citadel acrylics, sold for figure painters of fantasy games. They have names like "Skull white", "Chaos Black" and "Bleached bone" but they're very good, can be brush painted or airbrushed and have great covering properties. Visit a nearby gaming shop and take a look to the racks, probably there must be several brass shades in there.
