Hi all. I've started work on the Interus Mark V. The kit has crisper moldings than the Emhar offering however, as with typical eastern european kits, the kit is plagued with flash and the machine guns leave much to be desired.
Since I'm going to have to scratchbuild the guns anyway, I was hoping to get it right. I was planning to depict the vehicle as it was used by the Red army during the Russian civil war and I was wondering what type of machine guns were used. I've read conflicting reports of the vehicle being outfitted either by Hotchkiss or Lewis guns.
I was hoping you guys could help me out here. Thanks!
Are you modelling a particular vehicle? If so, you can tell whether it was fitted with the Hotchkiss or Lewis by checking the MG aperture. I've attached a sketch of the different female sponson types. The one at the type is typical of Mk IV female sponsons while the other two show the two different types fitted to the Mk V.
Hey thanks for the info. The kit appears to use the late hotchkiss type mountings.
Does the Lewis gun have ball mountings? It appears not to.
Thanks for the info. I'm not a WW1 modeler so most of these things are alien to me. I'm currently working on a "Four tanks, four eras" project. I hope to learn more from you guys. :)
...Does the Lewis gun have ball mountings? It appears not to...
Yes and no. The Lewis guns fitted to Mk IV female sponsons didn't. But a Lewis fitted to the Mk IV cab front or male sponsons did. They have a circular hole if left open instead of the rectangular aperture for the Hotchkiss. Quite often if the MG (Lewis or Hotchkiss) wasn't fitted, the mounting would be turned to close the opening.
I'm guessing the four eras are WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Kuwait/Iraq.

You hit the nail on the head, sir. I was building three kits for three different reasons. The DML M1A1 AIM is for a diorama, the Tamiya M48A3 is for a local group build and the DML Pzkpf. IV is an OOB entry for a local contest.
I thought it would be fun to throw in a rhomboid just for a fun build.
