Hello all, This is my first post. Please delete if not acceptable. I only wish to show my support for this site, and the wealth of information therein. I can no longer see well enough to do the smaller scales, so I do 1/6 . Here is an example using information found on this site. Thank you.
That is quite the remarkable model, mpcdock. I really like how you have captured all the 'trash' that would accumulate around a gun.
Is it a 13 pounder? Excuse me if I am mistaken; I was just hazarding a guess based on the length of the muzzle compared to the length of the recuperator. I did some rough measuring in the Woolwich Arsenal and found that the muzzle on the 13 pounder was about a hand-width longer than the recuperator, whereas on the 18 pounder the difference was about the length of half an arm. (I think I have average arms and hands!)
I avoid working in the larger scales because all my mistakes (and there are many!) would be too visible! so I admire anyone brave enough to do what you have done, and accomplish it mistake-free! Well done.
How long have you been model-making?

You are indeed correct- it is a 13 pounder, dedicated to Battery L at Nery. Thank you for your kind words, I've done military modelling in one form or another since about 1965. This one is entirely scratchbuilt, using info and photos from Landships.
OK, as I was a Howitzer Commander in the German Mountain Artillery, of course I knew that shells have colour codes to differantiate between them. But in the present they are less colourfull - mostly only "rings" and signs on it.
Hi, Very nice model.... heres a couple of pics of shells... 18pdr though, I assume the colours are the same for the 13pdr ...Yellow is HE, Black Shrapnel.....
