Another allied topic Does anybody have the information as to how many improvised gun mounts the german army put into field by end of 1914 ? mostly old fortress guns and naval guns.
Jagers book describes them briefly but gives no numbers
Ringkanone was the term applied to early 15cm pieces with the Krupp reinforced breach housing. (The Lange 15cm Kanone has been discussed here before.) They had factory purpose designed carriages; not extemporized mountings. To the best of my recollection, I can think of no foot artillery pieces given special mounting other than the Belgian 21cm, and they did not appear until early 1916.
The naval ordinance modified for land use came much later too.
The only "improvised" mount I can recall appearing in numbers in late 1914 was that of the 3,7cm BAK which was mated to the carriage of the 9cm s.kanone.
