FT17s sighted!

Last night I was watching "For whom the bells tolls" with Gary Cooper, and in the scene qhere the nationalist tanks advance toward the bridge -near the end of the movie- there appear at least two FT17s with a modified turret. perhaps a post-war american modification? Anyway, it was cool to spot them in one of my all time favourite movies!

Well spotted, Diego. I have never managed to sit through the film and didn't realise there was some tank activity. The relevant part is on Youtube:

The pyrotechnics start about 2' 30" in. The FTs are, as you might expect, M1917s with the US pattern mantlet. The others appear to be Christies of some kind.

A review of the film when it came out on DVD said the special effects were good but the Tanks were "unconvincing". Pity, really, because they are genuine Tanks.

The other tanks are M2. The US Army didn't like Christie's tanks much because they thought they were mechanically unreliable.

Sorry, mate, if I appeared rude. I was just trying to be brief because I think it is past the 'cut-off' point of this forum, as well.
