What is the claw like attacment on the front of these De Bange Guns?

The attached photos are from Cannons 14-18 Guns

The front end claw like attachment does not look like any hweel brakes I have ever seen! I have seen other wheel brakes on de Bange system guns.

Given that the attachment LOOKS like it Might be lowerable is it a "claw spade" ??

I have seen older guns with a front or axel tree mounted claw to did in as the gun starts recoil allowing a degree of automated return to battery ( position) in drawings of other guns but nothing like this before?
