MK1 Tank Plans what Scale?

Hi Everyone

Ok I need some advice confuse

You may or may not realise i have been working on a set of plans for the MK1 Male Tank. Well things are progressing and I'm in need of some info...

First off, the plans in a basic form I intend to make available in different scales for members of this site ... but ... in what scales?

I made the fatal mistake of saying 1/72, 1/35 and 1/48 ... this led to the question 'why not 1/32'.

So what scales ? confuse

The ongoing saga of what I have been up too can be found here...

One other piece of info that would be useful, is regards adding pictures to the site. I have built up a selection of photos, some of which can be found on my thread linked above, and I would like to add them to the photo reference part of the site ... any ideas on who to ask?

Anyhow, thank you for reading and get your thinking caps on. smile

Helen

Let us get crazy...

Why not 1/16 for R/C fanatics...

Or 1/6 for 1/6 for action figures fanatics...

A larger scale plan can be shrunk and keep its detail. Smaller scale plans don't enlarge well, because the detail becomes fuzzy. Since I like to scratch build in 1/24 scale, I make my plans 1/12 scale or 1"= 1'-0".

However, it's up to you. 1/32 or 3/8" = 1'- 0" (correct?) might be a good choice, but I think it would be easier to reduce or enlarge 1/24 scale plans. Which, incidently is the scale of the plans I got last week from Bovington for Little Willie. Easy to read, measure and enlarge on the drafting board.

Just my two cents!

Cheers!

Ron

"and I would like to add them to the photo reference part of the site ... any ideas on who to ask?" I think that would be Peter Kempf, the owner of the main Landships site. A fine gentleman who is lately far too busy with work in 'real life'. He may have been able to leave someone in charge, perhaps either of this forum's moderators? (But I'm really not sure about that)

I think the scales you selected, Helen, cover the 3 popular scales. I'd like them in 1/72, because I'd like Armourfast (HaT) to make a Mark I (permissions and copyrights etc etc would of course need thrashing out).

Reasons: The Airfix one(s) are 1/76. Emhar are uncontactable, and ditto all the other 'big players', so Armourfast are the 'best hope' (and it is a slim hope!).

Hi MkI Nut... I really think its only necesary to have small and large scale drawings with an overall measurement, it shouldnt be too difficult to scale to fit individual PC/printer setups...
I think a lot detail and line are likely to disapear on a small scale drawing so need to be thinker, what do you think...... good work by the way....

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the replies, you have given me a lot to think about.

I have to agree printing to the correct scale would mean a dramatic loss in detail. Plus having different drawings for the multitude of scales will require lots of web space.

Soooo how about this for an idea...

Separate top, bottom, side and front etc onto single A4 pages, and then have a height and length bar that you print to a certain length to get your desired scale.

I think on an A4 page a 1/32 scale image is as big as will fit?

The image I have attached is not to any scale and purely to give you some idea of what I mean.

Sounds like a good idea, Helen.

Also, have you thought of submitting the plans to MAFVA? You'd get even more famous!

Hi Helen,
Your idea of using an A4 sheet as a standard, which most people will use, is an excellent and inspired choice I think.  Will you be considering a set of your exceptional drawings for the "Female" version as well.

EEK!!!!! Fame is one thing I am definitely not after ... but its an idea.

I fell in love with the MK1 when I visited Bovi with friends some years ago now. I just want people to be able to look at plans that better represent the tank I know and love.

Well I'm back in the mood and health to start tweaking the plans again, so I will hopefully be able to post a few updates.
