Mk I airfix changes
Permalink

I was able to find the Landships archive page and downloaded the Whats wrong with the Airfix Mk I ? Article. Is there any thing else I should change? I am wanting to do a Mk I Supply tank and would appreciate any help.

I don't remember what was on the page but there are quite a few to fix.

1) The rivet pattern on the body is based on Mother. You can leave it alone but if you want to be really accurate there's a lot of work ahead.
2) The sponsons need to have a piece of right-angle styrene on top to represent the angle iron on top of the sponson.
3) The track adjusters need to be rounded at the bottom end.
4) The cab needs to be wider. The one in the kit is accurate in width for a Mk II onwards.
5) The roof hatch is accurate for a Mk II onwards as well. This will need to be filled in and a circular hatch flush with the roof fitted one section ahead of the old hatch.
6) For a supply tank a new section needs to be fitted to the rear of the tank. There are photos of Mk I supply tanks showing this on the forum. If I can dig them up, I'll repost here later.
7) Fortunately the silencer is OK to use for the supply tank as is the cab roof hatch. Both these features were on Mk I & II supply tanks.
8) There are two longitudinal strips at the rear of the roof. Only the rearmost one is accurate. The forward one does not exist on any of the Mk I - IV tanks.
9) A stores box needs to be made for the roof, similar in location but not construction to the Mk IV.

I'm sure there's a few fixes I've missed but those are the main ones. If you wanted to build a Mk II supply tank you don't have to worry about the cab width, roof hatch, or track adjusters.

Thanks Mark. that is what was looking for. I have a thread bookmarked on the Mk I supply tank and it shows the rear pretty good so I know about that but I could not remember what the other changes were. Your reply is a big help. I may do a Mark II but I will diffently make changes to the kit.
