The subject of the Fried. Krupp 10,5cm. l.F.H. Kp. 1916 has come up from time to time on this forum. This piece was produced in very limited numbers and few examples exist today. One example was at the Fort Jackson Museum in storage where very few people got a chance to see it.About ten years ago this piece was transferred to the South Carolina Army National Guard Museum also in Columbus, S.C., USA.(Not part of the Lovett Collection)
These are photographs taken in 1995 when the howitzer was still at FT Jackson. They were in a box of old notes so I have only just re-discovered them:
Thanks Ralph! Very interesting. The Bofors 10,5cm L22 howitzer that was sold to KNIL and Peru is the next development of this piece. Together with the Bofors 7,5cm L28 field gun (just two prototypes sold to Brazil) this was the Krupp "lessons learned model" from post WW1. Both Bofors pieces also came originally with the ground platform fo 360 degrees traverse.
Many thanks for sharing the info and the images. Your collection of items and inforamtion is a goldmine for all of us thanks to your generousity. Regards, Pat
What's the back story behind two 10.5cm howitzers being developed and produced for the German Army?
The Landships site doesn't have a reference to the lFH 16 Kp gun - a clear deficiency. If I can assemble some information on the Krupp gun I'll write up a Landships article on this gun.
