Yeah, new - not yet seen before. Difficult to fathom. Neither 504 nor 542, thus either 503 or 541 or 543.

Most probably 543: not 503 - with 541 remaining are mote option.

Sorry, no. Because of Abt. 3's habit of retaining one Iron Cross per side until the end of the war, one needs a full front or rear view for more exact timing.

If it should be 541 (what I do not suppose), then we are in April 1918 and the location is east of Villers-Bretonneux.
