Does anyone know of any sets of 1/72 WW1 motorcyclists? All sides are welcome and so are all periods of the war(early and late). It would be nice to have some for signallers/RE's. I doubt there are but any replies would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Great War Miniatures do one, but it doesn't really resemble any period motorcycle I know of. WD Models had trouble trying to cast a Clyno which was used as by the Motor Machine Gun Corps with a Vickers armed sidecar.

I have a ton of reference images for the Triumph Model H and Douglas 2 3/4hp motorcycles, which were the most common, and also the Phelon and Moore Royal Flying Corps model, that i'm happy to send around to anyone interested in making one, or just for reference. The French were wide users of the Triumph and Douglas bikes, as were the Germans when they got hold of any

Here's a side view of a Bleriot 500cc motorcycle. I can't say if it's capable of crossing the Channel!

My idea I posted back in December if you look through posts and threads on motorcycles here on the forum, was to modify HaTs WWII bicycles into Wanderer WWI German motorbikes and use their zundapp motorcycle riders as dispacth runners.

Hope this little idea will get things kick started.
Greetings, Josh

Hi Naoise

Not sure if this will help, but Early War Minatures do quite a range of 20mm scale motorcycles and motorcycles with sidecars, especially for the French and British. As the name suggests their range is aimed at the 1939-40 period but quite a bit of the stuff in their range could be used for WW1 at a pinch, so you may be able to find some motorcycles that might just do for wargames purposes.

Their French De Dion Bouton 75mm AA gun is really nice (I have two!) and there is lots of other useful kit such as the French 37mm infantry gun and crew. Besides which, the guy who owns the company - Paul Thompson - is a really nice chap and a wargamer too! I met him last week at War and Peace. And their prices are very reasonable for very good models.

They're on the web so it's worth a look.

Cheers

Paul

Paul, I hope I am not hi-jacking this thread when asking you if you could provide any pictures? I know their website but side-by-side images with other makes would help to decide whether to buy or not. Regards, Pat

Hi Pat

I'll be happy to provide pictures when the models are finished. At the moment they are built but are still just"white metal" awaiting a coat of paint. I've also done a heavy tractor and a Schneider 220mm gun which are also in the queue for painting. As soon as I have finished (well, for now!) my German army the French are next on the list and they'll get a coat of paint then!

Paul
