Dear all,

just added this picture to my collection. At first sight I thought it is a drawing. Because of this" strange light" and the shadows. But it seems to be a maneuver in the dark.

Is this picture known before? Hope you like it.

Regards

Chris

Hi Chris, it looks like dawn to me, look at the long shadows and the mist.

I've not seen it before, nice find.

It's a winter morning with low clouds or fog; February 1918, Sachy training ground near Sedan.

@LincolnTanker: For me it looked like "night training", because you can see this kind of light when tracer bullets are used. But it seems that I was wrong - look at mz answer.

@ mad zeppelin: Thank you! Do you have seen this picture before? Or is it a new find? Was it "Abteilung 1"?

Regards

Chris

Seen it before, it's part of a series of photographs showing the two tanks (which ought to be 505 and 506) advance downhill and over the frozen meadow.

Great!
Are the series published anywhere?

Not in coherent form, and IIRC not all of them. - They do not provide much vehicle detail, the tanks are just dark dots on a ground covered by hoare frosted grass; you would only want to use them if you haven't a sufficient number of good pictures.

I see.

Good point - I haven't thought about that. Anyway - I like it to have it in my collection. ;o)))

If you look at the 'tracer bullets' they go over the thumb of the person holding the photo down so they are most likely damage to the copy neg.
