Another Book to Avoid.

The World's Great Tanks by Roger Ford, pub. 1999.

First chapter is on 1914-18. Covers most of the salient events and includes rhomboids, Whippet, Schneider, Saint-Chamond, FT, and the A7V, of course. Historically reasonably OK, but some details shaky. Illustrations not bad, but Mr. Ford's "Mk IV Male" is actually our friend the Mk V in the troublesome blue and brown camo scheme. His Mk V is poor, with a massive rear cab and the exhaust pipe taking a detour over the top of it. Says that the K-Wagen was called the Grosserkampfwagen.

Mr. Ford asserts that William Tritton worked for a company in Lincoln called Fowler's . . .

A beginner's guide, and not a very useful one.

Did the book's price allow for high hopes?

Actually, I came across it in the Oversize Section in my local library. But I notice it can be bought online for as little as $2. Which is probably a fair price.smile
