Securing Gas Cans
Permalink

Ive seen numerous photos of British vehicles with petrol and water cans on the right side running board, but cannot figure out haw these flimsies were secured to keep them from falling off while the vehicle is driven.  Would someone be so kind as to explain this to me? (Im working on a Model-T Ford desert patrol car.)

Many thanks . . .

Al

Securing flimsies, with the GS lorries and the British armoured cars they were in flimsie racks, wooden boxes with a bar which was padlocked. See the enclosed from my Dennis kit. As to others I would have thought they would have been secured by leather strapping.

Hope this helps

Al,

Using my limited knowledge and my Dad's much more extensive knowledge of vintage cars i suspect if not strap is visible then a clamp assembly may well have been used which was screwed to the running board. There are 2 typesw ive seen before and one Ive never seen. See attachments.

would it be possible to post one of your Ford T pictures?

Hope this helps

Sam
