Terry's Models and Stuff
Permalink

I'll start this thread with a few pictures of the A7V I recently finished for my WWI army. It is an Irregular Minaitures 15 MM model, and being a wargame model is pretty simple. It went together easily and I think painted up satisfactorily. I based it on tank #503, as I had the most pictures of it to work from.  I am planning on adding another A7V soon and will most likely base it on tank # 562 as that scheme seems very appealing as well to me - clay yellow bands over feldgrau.

And here's a shot of 503 with some Strumtruppen attacking the enemy trench line.

More shortly,

Terry

Thank you Paul, I really enjoy the hobby.

I know this is not a gaming site, but here are a few game pictures where I unleashed my A7V for the first time on the unsuspecting Belgians.  One of the pictures will also show you one of the aerial elemnts - an Albatros D.III.

Opening moves.

The Germans advance.

The Air Service lends a hand.

Here are a couple more pictures for now. French Renault. An old Miniature Figurines 15 MM model. A German 7.7 cm Field Gun. This one is an Irregular Miniatures 15 MM model. They have a very extensive range fo artillery in this scale. Thanks to all of the help I've received I am currently working on my German 7.7 cm Infantry Gun and will share pictures of it when it's finished. Terry

Thank you Ian. I am a DBA based gamer, i.e. all of my games and armies are based on DBA or the fantasy set HotT (and I game from ancient times up to WWI), becuase I am a terribly slow painter (for example, I did over two weeks of dedicated effort on studying the color and schemes before doing the A7V), and the armies are small while the games are fun, and quick enough that we can usually get 3 to 5 games in during an afternoon. That said, the rules we use are called HitT (Hordes in the Trenches). They are a free down load from the HitT forum, or I am happy to send anyone a copy if they'll give me an email address. I did not wirte them, they were created by Matt Kirkhart (a really great guy too), but we, the local guys and I, have been working on some addendums that we feel make it more fun. One thing that is pretty much needed though is some understanding of the HotT rules becuase they are the fall back, but they too are a free download now by the authors since they are now out of print. A typical game will usually last about an hour to an hour and a half. I would load some links of games to give you a better idea, but I am not sure this forum let's you put in a link, at least the one time I tried, my post never showed up. Anyway, I'm happy to help anyone interested in this area. Terry

Hi Terry

As a fellow WW1 wargamer, I have to say that I really like your models. I have figures in both 10mm and 20mm but haven't tried 15mm for my WW1 collection yet, although somewhere in the loft are some of the original Minifigs 15mm WW1 figures!

Using a version of DBA is interesting. I did use DBA for Ancients but have now moved on to Fields of Glory. And we are about to publish our own set of fast play WW1 wargames rules called Crush the Kaiser. First set will be for the Western Front 1916-1918, with the intention of covering the whole war in time. They've been a while in production but at last we are on the final leg and I hope to have them to the printers later this week, so next week we can release them on a surprised public!

Cheers

Paul B

Hi Paul, Thank you for the kind words. It's a really interesting and from a gaming stand point a fun one I think. Doubt I'd think it had I been there though ( I was lucky to get to talk to several veterans back in hte mid 90's and heard some amazing stories). I like the HitT approach becuase I am really pretty ingrained in DBA bsaed gaming, which when I got back into gaming after retirement 10 years ago I found they met all of my requirements, and let me game all the periods I love. Then I got caught up into fantasy gaming too, so also play HotT, whic his the fantasy version of DBA. That said I am always interested in new rules and hope you'll let me know when yours avaialable. Terry

Hi Terry

Thanks. I don't know whereabouts you are based (or even if you are in the UK!) but we're taking our WW1 "show game" that was at Salute on the road again shortly - we'll be at the Skirmish show at Sidcup in Kent on Sunday (25th) and then at the SELWG show at Crystal Palace on 16 October. After that we'll be at the Ramsgate show on 30 October and then Crisis at Antwerp on 5th November. If any of those are within reach and you are coming along to the show please do stop by and say Hi - you won't miss the table as its 10ft by 6ft of custom-built trenches (in 20mm scale) and with two great big banners!

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul, I'd love to meet you and chat about the period, but I am in America. However I do get over every so often, and was just there in May to go to Watership Down and all the places Hazel and company went to in their journey. Watership Down is our favorite book, followed by the Redwall series. May come back next year for the 40th anniversary of Watership Down, and Mr. Adams has invited us to come and see him, which would be a BIG thrill for us. Wow! a 10 foot by 6 foot table! I am used to playing on a 2 foot by 2 foot board. Has to be very impressive! Maybe you can share some pictures!!! Terry

Hi Terry

Never mind, I'm sure the States are very nice! If you do come over the pond any any time and there is a show (eg Salute in April next year) I'd be happy to meet up - or to meet with you here in sunny Whitstable on the East Kent coast!

10 by 6 is our standard wargames board as I am lucky enough to have a shed in the back garden where we meet each week. In fact I am about to move to shed mkII which will be 20 x 12 and thus give us a 12 x 6 table with room around all 4 sides!

I have posted some pictures of our game on this forum already, in fact they are on pages 3 and 4 of this part of the forum under "photos of our game at Salute". I hope you like them!

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul, How close we were as we were headquartered out of reading, and of course Hampshire (where Watership Down is located), is really close to Kent. Being a fan of the Dr. Syn books (as well as the Redwall series) I had hoped to go to Dymchurch just to say I'd been there, but after seeing how narrow the streets were in the cities we were in, all of those buses, and not being used to driving on the other side of the road, we, well, I chickened out. Once we confirm our trip next year if it works out I will indeed let you know as I always enjoy meeting fellow gamers, historians and figure fans. I'll have to check out your pictures. Terry

Hi Terry

Thanks. It's really amusing to us Brits to hear you say the streets are narrow in the cities! To us of course the narrow streets are the country lanes just wide enough for one car in either direction (and there are plenty of those, especially on the way to Dymchurch!).

Whereabouts in the States are you based? I was due to come over to the US for work a couple of years ago (to the UN in NYC and our Embassy in Washington - guess who I worked for!) but the trip never happened in the end and I took early retirement 18 months ago when it looked like the public sector here was going to go down the tubes (a good call as it happens!).

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul, Oh yeah, we saw plenty of those one lane country roads too, as you can guess in seeing all the places of Watership Down. More than once the fellow we met over there who was helping insure we saw all the right places, had to back up more than once to let a larger vehicle pass. But I knew of that from previous trips over. I love England and could easily enjoy living there. I live about 30 miles southeast of Nashville, Tennessee. We moved here when I retired 10 years ago, and like you it sounds, was trying to get ahead of the lesser retirment benefites or down sized. And as it has turned out, was the right decision! So welcome to the wondefufl world of retiremnt!!! However I do work a little no-brainer part time job for hobby money, and also for my better health (it gets me up and moving and out of the house or I could lock myself away in my study for days at a time reading and researhcing sutff - you know neat stuff like camo schemes or uniform detials!!!). If you are ever over this way and in my area please do let me know and we'll arrange something. Terry

Hi Terry

Thanks. Let's stay in touch - us retiree's need to have something to do with our time! I've got myself a p/t job too, but thankfully it doesn't interfere with the wargaming and modelling!

To save chatting on this forum please email me on paulbarnett57[at]talktalk.net and we can keep on chatting! I do some ACW gaming too so your location sounds ideal, although I prefer the area of the 7 days in 62 as that's when my armies are based.

Cheers

Paul

I finished the first little infantry gun for my Germans and it is just as offered, except that I removed the foot rests on the front as this is one of the changes made to the gun, besides the smaller wheels. These are not great pictures and I will be taking some more when I finish the gun crew and get it all based up, but thought you might like to see the gun by itself. This is a 15 MM Irregular Miniature.

I have finished the Infantry Gun element for my German forces so here are a few pictures of it.

And here is a Struemtruppe asault supoprted by artillery with shot and shell around them!

Next up will probably be the C-n-C in his staff car.

Terry
