I was given a 30MM barrel of an A10 Worthog gatling gun to produce two working black powder scale field guns out of. I personally favor the Krupp design but my benefactor has a strong aversion to the Germanic influence.
An Ameican "screw gun" would be apropriate and the particular early form of interrupted thread is easy to make, much easier than later stepped designs.
At any rate, what I need are drawing sets that could be purchased. In order to stay away from trouble from the BATFE it has to be pre 1899 in form. Originally we were thinking Whitworth (Minus the hexagonal bore) but "plans" I paid for are miserably short of useable detail.
If anyone here knows of a book that shows guns in good detail, or better yet, plan sets one could purchase it would be a huge help. The nationality doesn't really matter other than the German exception, the date of original design is all important though.
Why not a 75mm M1897 field gun? - meets the criterion of pre-1899 and there's a lot of reference material on line for this gun. For example: http://www.scribd.com/doc/17334377/TM-9305-Technical-Manual-75mm-Gun-Materiel-M1897-and-Modifications.
The breech isn't an interrupted screw breech but the Nordenfelt breech used possibly easier to model than a screw breech.
Hmm, this gun is many times as complex as the Whitworth, perhaps the Screw gun is also similarly complex. I may be back to the Whitworth. Thanks for the URL, that was fun! The actual breech mechanism isn't bad, but everywhere one looks there are mechanisms to replicate.
