Those A7V-U pictures could explain the second Hedi. The pictures show 2 different A7V-U's. The first and third pics have an opening for a door on the side of the hull that is not on 524. Also, the chassis number visible in the third image is 523. Any ideas where these photos came from?

I'll have to add to the voisces of praise here... excellent submissions! My favorites are a pics I hadn't seen before; two rare ones of the 38cm Lange Max, Baterrie WilliamII, French AA guns in Macedonia (Army of the Orient), and the Brit GS wagon loaded with a damaged 4.5inch field howitzer. Allied Cars Under German Control. Freikorps I am guessing. Extremely cool! That skull seems to be uniform among all the vehicles. Exactly the same. Was that the semi-official symbol of the freikorps? It's not just any skull & crossbones, it is easily recognized.

This can't be normal. What armored car is this? It resembles an Austin... But with double Rolls Royce turrets...? What the heck? And it is Kokampf 119, part of Abteilung 1. That has to be significant.

I was just going through my books and I decided to scan some images I hadn't seen online before.

"Scene of the first German tank attack. German A7V's in the field before Amiens, throwing up clouds of chalk dust." I had never seen this picture, and I'd love to get my hands on a REALLY high quality version of it.
(The picture is REALLY big in my book, and as such would NOT scan properly using Descreen software, so I was forced to blurr the hell out of it, re-sharpen it, re-save it. There isn't that much detail loss.. The picture in the book is quite low quality too)

Notice the guy in the first pic, who's standing the highest? German helmet, leather coat with double-rows of buttons? The SAME guy is in the second pic. That must mean that Heidi had a fairly fixed crew. That's interesting!

Sorry for the big pics! I HATE dot-printed pictures. I hate them I hate them! Even De-Screening software can't get them to look right. How do you guys scan your book pics???

Great shot- couple of minor comments:

Re Polish armoured car If you peer at the murky image of the building from which rhe stars and stripes are flying there seems to be some plate by the door so it could be a US consulate building in Poland

The bicycle wheel was an attempt to save rubber in wartime but proved too expensive and heavy. In Holland Anthony Fokker had tried to develop a similar wheel for cars before WW1 (and before he concentrated on aircraft). The idea workd but tended to disintegrate at any speed.

Knew I had these A7V-U shots sitting around the hard drive. Here they be.....

The three original photos from earlier in the thread plus three others that were available before the site went AWOL.

P.S.: My post earlier on in this thread is incorrect. The door I thought was different does exist on 524.
