Trench system (at 1:1)

Andy Robertshaw's is a name doubtless known to at least a few people here but his latest venture is rather impressive - a full size recreation of part of a trench system in what was his garden.

And yes, I know it's the Daily Mail but the pictures are good:

Or, if that URL is too much for you:

Very good article I thought and good to see living history portrayed in a good light for once. Shame about some of the typical Daily Mail reader comments

The Mail had an article in the past few weeks about spending 24 hours in a recreated trench. Wonder if this is the same one? (trench, that is; not article)

200 tons of dirt shifted to produce a mere 30' and 3 dugouts.
Shows how much must've been excavated (& refilled) for the whole system.

Did he have permission from the local council?

What you do in the rear of your property (apart from building a struture with foundations) is entirely up to you.

You don't have to inform the council.
