Searching for a photo of a Belgian Command AC used in Russia in 1916
Permalink Closed

Hello every one.

I am looking for a picture/drawing of a Belgian Command Armoured Car used in Russia in 1916, I am not sure of it's make, {Mors,Minerva}, I am just not sure. I have a few small picture's, but nothing with real good detail. I will try to post them in a few days, just in case some one has not ever seen them.

All the Best

Hi Tim,

To my knowledge, the Belgians didn't take Minerva's to Russia. They brought 13 armoured cars, Mors and Peugeot, of which six were armed with a 37mm cannon, four with MG and three unarmed (probably the command cars). Here are some photo's from a great article I found on the web, based on a contemporary French magazine article and photo's from a Belgian private album. The site is: http://www.greatwardifferent.com/Great_War/Russia/Kieff_Vladivostok_01.htm. You should see the rest of the site also...

Michel.

Oh yes, and the following photo appeared in an Italian magazine of 1915/16, claiming to be Belgian too...

They must have gone shopping in the US then . Its one of the 3 New York National Guard armoured cars on a Mack, aWhite and  a Locomobile chasis.

Tim,

I have found the first four articles from VM (Véhicule Militaires) called "Corps Expeditionnaire des Auto-Cannons Mitrailleuses Belges en Russie" dating from 1985. I will scan them and make available as PDF-files in the coming days. Unfortunately the series was longer and part 4 is only the arrival in Russia! I will try and find the missing parts as well, but old copies of VM are as hard to find as hen's teeth!
