Sorry I can't help you with your queries Max, I just wanted to say what a nicely packaged kit that looks; does it have the correct angle on the top of the female sponson, as referred to in PDA's recent thread?

Wow, that looks pretty good, and luckily includes the grouser track attachments - if only every other WW1 Rhomboid manufacturer Mk I - IV did the same!

Its a great kit, I built some time ago. The worst part about it is cleaning up all those track links, a lot of time spent with the file cleaning them up.. But all that said I would buy another.

Enjoy ... !

Regards
Pete

I have never built a white metal kit before.

I red something about cleaning the parts ?

Actually I don't know if I'm going to built this kit or sell it.

Seems a lot of work. But it's a lovely kit.Never seen a kit before with all wheels inside for supporting the tracks.

I saw the kit was from the year 1989 and the conversion from 1991.

Is the noone who can tell me more about the manufacturer?

regards Max

Cleaning the parts is easy enough - personally I put them in some water with washing up liquid, rub them down a bit then let them dry, to get some of the greasiness of them, never had a problem

Hello Max,

Scale Link Ltd. was originally created by one John Piper; a skilled modeler and superior military miniatures bulder.  ( Should you visit the IArmyM in London you will note a large diramma in 1/32 scale depicting an early WW1 scene.  This was done by John; using his own figure creations.)  John was a purist; everything in his Great War Series was the traditional 54mm.  The MkIV was the most ambitious project of the Scale Link line.  It was followed by the GS wagons and cavalry releases.    He had planned the furture releases of the 13 Pdr, 18 Pdr, and 4.5 in Howitzer with all accesories.   Additional projected releases were the 75mm Mle 1897 with limber,  and the 7,7cm FK16.  However, after selling the company none of these kits were ever released.    The Brit field artillery Scale Link now offers are simple casts that lack accurate carraiges and are fitted with inaccurate wheel configurations.

Sorry to bore everyone,  but John was one of those chaps who deserves to be remembered.

Thanks for the information - I did think from the small photos that the British field artillery range didn't look as good as the other Scalelink items so will stay away from those. Would love to pick up some of the other bits at some point

Hello,

I built the Scale Link Mark IV nearly 20 years ago.  At the time this was a state of the art kit.  Had to add missing rivets, alter the un-ditching rail configuration, and add miscellaneous other details.  Here are two photos.  Unfortunately, at the time I made this kit my references indicated the tanks were painted green.  I have another kit along with the Female conversion but have not decided whether to build it or just get the Takom Mark IV female. Also, built the Renault FT, which was a much easier kit.

Since the Mark IV I had started the Scale Link Rolls Royce Armored Car.  I replaced the poorly cast rivets with my own made from styrene.  I get bored with the kit and in the photo you can see some of the replaced rivets on the turret.  Since I put this on the shelf years ago I picked up the Resicast 1/35th Rolls Royce.

Lastly, about 2 years ago I built one of the newer Scale Link artillery kits - their 4.6 inch Howitzer kit.  Compared to their older kits this was a real let down.  The quality of the castings was toy like and there was not nearly the same level of quality or detail.  I had to scratch build the trail handle as well as add the trail hatch cover (neither were included in the kit).  At the same time I returned their 18 pdr kit cause it would have been too much effort to bring it up to the standards needed.

I love the early Scale Link kits.  They were of a very high quality and the only game in town for larger scale World War 1 subjects.

My wife bought me this model from a friend who had given up before starting it.  At the bottom of the box was the message "You must be mad!"  I was.

Last year the half-finished model fell of a high shelf and finished up almost as it started - with a few bends and bumps added.

This has to be a labour of love or obsession!

A few years ago I bought the 60 pr and was very impressed with the quality: after building Hinchliffe kits, this was a Rolls-Royce version.

A great pity that they have gone down, especially as they are Rolls-Royce prices.

Tony
