While I am getting up the courage to put mud on my 1/35 scale 21cm Morser; I thought I would show you what I am currently working on...
This is the 1/72 scale 6" howitzer by Bull Models. I purchased this kit after reading the excellent review on Landships. When I received the kit I felt it lacked necessary details that I would hope to see. For the passed week I have been adding rivets and other details from sytrene, solder, and brass. To date I believe I have added over 120 extra pieces (mostly rivets). Lots more to do...
Thanks for the kinds words. I am enjoying the detailing but every time I think I am close I find another gap in the kit. Here is my most recent progress. I replaced the one piece pole part for the wheel brakes with extra details made of lead foil, solder, straight pins and sytrene. Comments are most welcome.
The next big hurdle for this piece is the sighting and elevation equipment. The kits parts are lacking detail and the instructions regarding their placement is confusing to say the least. I will need to remake a lot of it from scratch. If anyone has good photos of the unit, mounts and such I would be most grateful if you could post them.
Pat and Mike - thanks for your kind words. I too would prefer an accurate kit and just make it out of the box. This one was far from satisfying so I started to add details. Then I could not stop.
This small update shows the scratchbuilt elevation rack I made for piece. It is made from styrene with the "teeth" added with fine solder added. Comments and criticisms are most welcome.
More progress on the 6" Howitzer. Over the past several days I have added scratchbuilt trunnion caps and flanges (the latter hard to see) as well as the elevation housing. I used the kit supplied hand wheels but I think they are too small. However, I did not think I could make them from scratch.
Next up is the last bit I will add to the kit. I have to make/modify the sighting equipment.
Please note that the barrel assembly is not glued at this time. It will ease painting.
Here is the gun with the scratchbuilt sighting unit. It is made up of 20 individual parts. Next up will be painting. Once it is painted and the barrel assembly glued I will make the linkage from the left trunnion to the sight.
The sight is a little taller than it should be. However, I have placed a W^D figure next to it to show that he could look through the eye piece.
