It's been a few years between post but I am in the process of building a large scale model of an 18 pounder and need information on the correct shade of green used .
According to the Osprey book British Artillery 1914-1919, ISBN 978-1-84176-688-1, the colors for artillery were Light Brunswick Green and Dark Brunswick Green. To my eye Dark Brunswick Green looks similar to Tamiya NATO Green but this is simply my opinion. Deep Brunswick Green is BS381 227 and Light Brunswick Green is BS381 225 according to E- Paint .Co.UK. Thanks very much for replying you nailed the problem I was having as I could not work out the correct shade of green from photos and the original gun I have access to was repainted in modern light green in the eighties. I have an extensive library of photos as I have free access to the weapon in question. I have been in the process of drawing up a set of plans as I go along with this process.
Yeah, that is the problem with colors, finding a match for models. You may also try Vallejo or if you prefer enamels, Humbrol should be helpful too. The colors on the web site I gave were definitely a green shade and not olive so that was why I suggested the NATO Green. However colors on a monitor are not reliable so use your own judgment. I think if you are close to the colors mentioned in the Osprey book you shoild be fine.
