British Military Trucks of World War One

Tim's book arrived yesterday and haven't been able to put the thing down.OK trucks of this period are of great interest to me anyway. 200 pages with 396 photographs.Very high quality paper and the quality of the pictures is brilliant with very informative text.

I can't think of much else to say only that this will be the reference book of British trucks of the Great War.Some of the manufactures I have never heard of before.

Brilliant-buy it.

Hi I too now have a copy. Great reference. I note thst there was no reference of the Mack Series though. Apart from this the range of builders some I have never heard of, is extensive. It also has some very good photos of workshop and gun trucks to provide reference for model making or just a table book.

Mack does get a small reference on page 108 with my understanding that the WD purchased only 150 of them. I did send in the one photo I have of a WD Mack AC, but it was not included in the final book as it was not of good enough quality. I didn't realise that until after the book was printed at which time it was too late. It does seem that photos of WD Macks are extremely rare.
Anyway, I am pleased to hear that you are enjoying the book. I understand from the publisher that within the first four weeks of printing that 70% of the books had been sold (although most of those will have gone to retailers of course).

I bought a copy at the first opportunity, and have only had a little time for a rapid perusal, but would most definitely recommend it.

Of course, the question arises as to the next publication: staff cars and communications vehicles, perhaps?smile

What would you describe as a communication vehicles? DR?
I think I am going to need some more photographs if you want me to do that.

Staff cars have had very little attention in print. It has become apparent that the Vauxhall D25 has a number of slight variations in the coachwork of the open configuration, and that there would appear to be several survivors. I have a few good photographs of variants.

Communications vehicles would include some of the variety of vehicles used in minor roles, such as the squadron hacks, etc.  The book "Camion de la Victoire" does not yet have an equivalent for British military transport. And that book lacks some of the dimensions and drawings which would be useful to modellers. Some of this material exists, and I have been compiling data and contemporary drawings, etc. for some time,  and I am certain that more can be found.

Fantastic book Tim. My copy arrived today, I didn't know that many good quality WD truck pictures existed... guess what I'm going to be doing for the rest of the evening?
