Airfix in the Pipeline?

Uncorroborated, but allegedly from the lips of Hornby's rep: "Airfix are making some new moulds for WWI. Look out for new artillery sets and diaoramas."

That's all I know.

Exciting! Come ooooon 6 inch 26 cwt howitzer with FWD Model B.....

Despite the disappointment at the lack of retooling of the Mk I kit, they've done a lot of interesting things recently - their WW2 RAF bomber resupply vehicle set for starters

This is great news if it's true!

If Airfix would make one WWI kit at your command, what would it be?

My vote for a good 1/72nd scale 60 pounder, limber and team.

Yours,

Perhaps not a good idea to get your hopes up too much if you are hoping for hard plastic kits - they might be polythene (or similar soft plastic) for wargames etc. as in the existing infantry sets (which are also used in their dioramas). In fact this reminds me that when I were a bairn there was a Royal Horse Artillery set in polythene, with I think flat caps not tin hats, which could match the brief description in one of the two diorama sets announced

www.airfix.com/shop/new-for-2014/dioramas-and-buildings/a50145-wwi-artillery-barrage-gift-set-172/
www.airfix.com/shop/new-for-2014/dioramas-and-buildings/a50165-wwi-western-front-gift-set-172/

So it depends on how accurate that 'new mould' business is. And there was a very full announcement from Airfix in December which includes the above, and covers the whole of 2014.

Thanks for the links. I really hope they're not rehashing the old RHA set again.

I suppose the FK 96 could be the Emhar model under license, but hopefully we'll get one new mould at least.

looking at the mock up of the box on the Airfix site the British gun appears to be an 18pdr with the gunners wearing Brodies. However, I will wait with baited breathe as the picture on the female tank  did not match the actual product. I too hope that Airfix have not bought some of Emhars moulds as they did with the MkVI  and others. Lets hope that PSR has been given accurate data. however will it be 1/76 or 1/72?

Mark VI? Do you mean the 1930s-40s Light Tank? If so, that was JB Models not Emhar (I believe JB was owned by a chap who used to work at Matchbox - the kits were of a very similar style).

All appear to be early war... Apart from the 7.7cm I expect a rehash. Sigh

I phrased my comment badly so it was crude and  not clear. Indeed the mk VI was by JB models. I just hope that the artillery pieces are not Emhars 18pdr which although not bad the crew is lacking in quantity. this important piece needs to be updated to the 21st century standard of engineering like their latest Gloster gladiator

Thank you for the reminder. Something to look forward to maybe.

I'd like to point towards a detail not discussed here so far. The sets contains a tube of "poly cement" each. I take it this is for glueing polystyrene, so the guns would better come in that material . So, even if Airfix was to re-release the Emhar gun kits at least they would come in another material.

Here'*s hope anyway. Regards, Pat

Pat, More recent issues from Emhar are in a poly cement gluable plastic look for the label on the box...

Airfix put a link on twitter to their website with information about planned future releases - the Airfix artillery barrage, first assault and western front gift sets are all now 'cancelled'

Frankly I do not care too much about the giftsets, from what I get they were old kits / figures with vaccum formed bases added. The bases will be available separateley by Amera according to this thread:

http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=44306

What I am much more concenered about is the lack of news about the announced new sets of German FK 96 n. A. with crew, British 13 pdr with crew, French m1897 with crew, and early war French infantry. PSR have seen some masters and wrote they were good. I asked Airfix when these sets were to be released and the reply was: this December or maybe 2015. The more people send inquiries to Airfix, the more interest is shown and the more likely is their release. Regards, Pat

Would be interested in genuinely New WW1 stuff from Airfix... but not if its simply a Redux of someone else's kits, as I already have them in spades!...

In particular new Early WW1 French infantry and Artillery, I think it would also be nice to see some of the "Workhorses" of Aviation and Transport..... or how about a Dolphin.......

Despite what it says on the other Fora Airfix's venerable WW1 tank has not yet been replaced, as it is not and never was a MKI.......

That's a shame.  I know several people who deserve a gift of an artillery barrage.biggrin

Certainly a blow considering the PSR gave some comments about the new figure  implying they were of an excellent standard. however, airfix always keeps its cards close to its chest! Lets hope that they are not going down  the route of most larger companies either

1. concentrate on large and expensive models for a smaller market with deep pockets. Great if you have room and the money for such products.

2. more popular (often implying third reich) subjects

3. Keep churning out the same limited range as the moulds get worn out! (Certainly this applies to airfix's current range of WW1 figures which have so much flash on them now).

Airfix said the big sets were cancelled, and I asked them about the projected sets of early war French infantry and the three artillery sets. After some time, I received the following answer from their customer service:

"I can confirm that these have all been cancelled but are under review at the moment."

So it seems we could do worse than keep Airfix asking about them. Regards, Pat
