Jeffery Armored Car No.1 1915 (card model)

Here we have Andriy Romanchuk's Jeffery Armored Car No.1 recolored and rescaled to 1/48. This is the fourth of Mr Romanchuk's line of WWI armored cars that I've built, and I can't say enough about the quality and design of these models - they are excellent. This one came with clearly illustrated instructions, written in english. Andriy's website is gone, but his line of free armored cars can still be downloaded right here at the Landships II site. He has at least one WWI armored car available for purchase at ecardmodels.com, too.

This was the first armored car deployed by the US Army, and one was put to use during the punitive expedition against Pancho Villa. By the time the vehicle arrived in New Mexico, however, Villa had slipped back across the border. It carried a crew of 4, and was armed with up to 4 unfixed Benet-Mercier machine guns. A number of armored cars built on Jeffery truck chassis were put into service by the British India Command, for use during the Indian Mutiny of 1916. These carried a single fixed Vickers machine gun.

The build went as smooth as silk. The only modification (besides the recolor), was wire grab handles in lieu of the paper ones that come with the kit. I built the model with rotating turrets, but they had a little too much slop, so I glued them fast.

I chose a weathered wood texture for the paper base. The "groundwork" is a jpeg of a dirt road with a little static grass. It looks pretty convincing, I must say.

Photos were taken with an Android phone. They're better than those taken with my old camcorder, but could still use some improvement.
