I have a question, and I would love to be wrong with my worries.
I had bought the Modelltrans 1/72 kit of the Romfell armored car, and - a couple of weeks ago - also their brand new kit of the Junovicz. I was extremely happy to see them in kit form!
Now I had a doubt, and I looked in my references which were the dimensions of the actual armored cars. What I found is:
Romfell (1st model): 570cm x 190cm x 250cm = in 1/72 scale: 7.92cm x 2.64cm x 3.47cm
Modelltrans kit dimensions: approximately 6.9cm x 2.3cm x 3.3cm
Junovicz: not yet assembled, but the length according to my references is also 570cm = 7.92cm in 1/72 scale.
Modelltrans kit length: approximately 6.8cm
Now I must say that I find the proportions of both kits to look o.k., e.g. compared to photos. But according to my references, they are both around 1cm (!) too short.
Any idea what's the matter here? Does anybody have other dimensions for the originals?
PS: My references in this context are:
- Stahl und Eisen im Feuer, Panzerzüge und Panzerautos des k.u.k. Heeres 1914-1918, R. Hauptner and P. Jung
- Aviarmor website (in russian)
As I wrote before, both kits are beautifully detailed, and I would love to find out that the dimensions are correct!
