Size of unditching rails
Permalink

I'm replacing the Emhar unditching rails with something more accurate. The Emhar rails scale out as an angle about 4,25" deep by 2,5" wide by 1" thick.

The Airwaves brass rails scale out at approx 2,75" by 2,75".

Does anyone have the correct size of angle used on the Mk IV?

Eventually found an arrangement drg of the Mk V Unditching Gear for the Mk V.

Have assumed that the angle iron used would be the same on both tanks as spans and loads are pretty much the same.

Scaling off the drg, I get an unequal angle 52,5 mm x 78,7 mm (longer side vertical)

Looking this up in my old engineering books, this translates into a BSUA 105 angle of 3" x 2".  The thickness can vary between 0,25" and 0,375" - take your pick.

For future reference, this translates into:

1: 16     4,75 mm x 3,2 mm x 0,4 mm - 0,6 mm

1: 25     3,0 mm x 2,0 mm x 0,25 mm - 0,4 mm

1: 32     2,4 mm x 1,6 mm x 0,2 mm - 0,3 mm

1: 35     2,2 mm x 1,5 mm x 0,2 mm - 0,3 mm

1: 72     1,1 mm x 0,7 mm x 0.1 mm - 0,125 mm
