In an idle moment, I wondered whether in 1914 any Prussian or other German troops passed through or close to Waterloo, as others had done in 1815, although with entirely different motives. A sort of "compare and contrast" thing. Some friends in another place were kind enough to detail the regiments that passed south of the village itself. Imagine my surprise on stumbling across this photo of two Belgian cavalrymen appearing to be on the lookout for just that eventuality:
