The top picture shows an interesting rounded-top dustbin cupola on top of the roof ventilator - has anyone ever seen a photo of a real St Chamond wearing such an addition? Anyone know if it is actually a cupola?

I think Steve Zaloga called it a dummy cupola in an article published in the December issue of " Military Modelcraft International "

There is an image on this forum (I think). If my memory has failed (quite possible) then it's on the French 14-18 forum of a Saint-Chamond with the dummy cupola.

Again from memory the dummy cupola was tested by a single tank unit for a short period of time - the trial was not repeated and the dummy cupola not

generally adopted.

Regards,

Charlie

Extracted digit - there is an image of another AS31 Saint-Chamond tank in the thread - http://landships.activeboard.com/t39728217

"Tanker" points out in this thread that the dummy cupola was trialled by AS31 during the Laffaux attack 17 May 1917 - the cupola

was not used again.

Regards,

Charlie
