After a long and forced hiatus from, I’m building (finally) an older Emhar Mark A Whippet in 1/35 scale. Aside from all of the filling, filing, scraping, sanding, swearing, etc., I’ve added Fruilmodel tracks and purchased a PanzerShop resin conversion kit. It contains some parts with which I am not at all familiar:
There are about a dozen pieces of what I believe are supposed to be detachable steel-bracketed wooden blocks (judging from a color Whippet diagram I saw online) used for traction in mud. They are often depicted hanging from the tank’s hull at various points. My question here is what color was the metal—unpainted steel?
There are two fender skirts (for lack of a better term) to be suspended over the tracks between the hull-mounted angle irons, fore and aft. I’ve seen a couple of photos of these but it is unclear to me: are they sheet metal or possibly canvas? What color are they supposed to be? Were they hung with springs or chain? I can’t seem to find any definitive information on them.
What color were the jerry cans and the ammo boxes?
Any help from any of you knowledgeable folks would be greatly appreciated.

The tracks blocs was made using steel with wood pads, Without any paint I think.
The fenders was canvas attached to the side brackets with wire.
Regarding the cans, from some descriptions of thank seen from planes, it could be supposed they was painted with red paint.

Thank you for the information! Red cans, huh? I never would have guessed that color and it's so hard to determine these things with the available black and white photographs. I'll post a couple of pictures when the model is worked up to an acceptable point (probably before it's weathered--I'm still a bit skittish about my technique or lack thereof!). Thanks again.

Cannot provide more about the cans. If I remember, those pilots reports was reported by David Fletcher in one of his books. From other point it could make sense to paint gasoline cans in a bright color to prevent mistake and accident. Regards

I have an idea that the fuel was supplied, in cans, directly from the suppliers (eg Shell). The cans would have been in the 'company colours' and possibly with the logo. Thus you might see Castrol, Shell, BP colours, it is just a theory of mine.

Cannot provide more about the cans. If I remember, those pilots reports was reported by David Flechter in one of his books. From other point it could make sense to paint gasoline cans in a bright color to prevent mistake and accident. Regards

True enough. Would the tankers also carry water for the cooling system (if there was one), I wonder? If so, they'd have to distinguish between the fluids.

About those b... cans, I eventually find the reference I remembered.
New Vanguard 100 written by D Fletcher (and not Flechter, I'm very sorry!) P17/18 : "Cecil Lewis from no. 3 squadron RFC flying mentions "the red petrol tins visible on the brown backs (of the tanks)".
