Schneider Tanks and Crane conversion

Bumbling around I came across three shots of Schneider tanks in a University Archive

'Schneider Tank converted for use as tractor and yard derrick' Circa 1918

Ti8nOGI.jpg?2

'Paint shop associated with 10th Company 2nd M.M Regiment, Aviation Section, Signal Corps, American Expeditionary Forces, France'

0qGTcdR.jpg?2

'Unloading Spot; Schneider CA and Renault FT tanks on unloading spot' Circa 1918

Sorry I have no other information as to time or location at this time.

I can request higher resolution copies of these if you guys thing these might be worth it although I don't know how long they may take. Let me know.

The crane conversion would have been a fairly straightforward modification. The Schneider CD towing tractor was effectively the same modification of the tank -

although it had a capstan rather than a crane.

Regards,

Charlie

Bonjour,

These 3 photos was probably done during Summer 1918, inside the Artillerie Spéciale Camp from Bourron ( South of Fontainebleau),

An Américan Mechanics Coy worked in Bourron, on tanks coming back from the Front. Bourron was the GPAS (Grand Parc d'Artillerie Spéciale).

The crane conversion on a Schneider was probably only built in Bourron. This kind of tank crane was not used inside tanks units.

The crane is not on a schneider CD, but a dismanted Schneider CA1. This crane is new for me !

Of course, higher resolution of this photos will be better for à good recognition . .  . .

Bonne journée - Michel

I thought that crane affair was unusual. I will send off the request for the images then Tanker, sadly it seems there were only the three images in the file but there may be something else paperwork wise to confirm the location/date.

I have sent, this night, my request to the University of Illinois . . . , and also, only found these three photos.

Bonne journée - Michel
