does anyone out there know where I can get a couple of the airfix 1/72 kits of the world war 1 mark 1 tank,I am willing to pay a fair price and shipping preferably in the states, please contact me at znwood2000@hotmail.com thanks-zack wood
A year ago, or thereabouts, I saw that Hannants were flagging the Airfix Mk I as going out of production, or some such, and it looks like this has now happened.
But I think that this was so recently, that you should still be able to snap up kits here and there. Just look around. And then there is always Ebay!
I love that kit! It's amazing to think that it was done in the 60-ies. It's a mix between different Mk's, but that is actaully an advantage, because it makes it easier to build any of the three first types! And most of the fault are easy to correct.
Yes, it's sad. But the mold is still and hopefully it will return to the lists soon. Meanwhile, I will look at my eight unbuilt kits with tenderness...

It was great for mods. One of mine got strtched and with new sponsons became a MarkV* Female of the US 601 whilst a second became a Mk IV wireless tank although I suspect the accuracy of the latter as to this day I've never found a single photo or drawing of this variant (all I can find are Mk I wireless) even thougy the Mk IV wireless was used in some numbers.
thanks to everyone who responded to my post after some more looking I found that Michigan toy soldier company here in the states still stocks them, thanks againa-zack
I'm in the same boat my friend. I was hell-bent on converting the Airfix Mk.I into one of the Mk.II's knocked at at Bullecourt in April 1917, but will have to shelve the project until once of these rare gems turns up somewhere. Its such a shame!
If Airfix are on the ball they might realise that it's the 90th anniversary of the Armistice in November and reissue it. Perhaps a reminder from interested parties would spur them on.
Those of us of a certain age might remember that the original Airfix WWI figures and Tank were inspired by the 1964 BBC documentary series The Great War and appeared shortly after it was screened. Amazing to think that the veterans who appeared in that series were only in their 60s and 70s and you met vets everywhere. Now Henry Allingham is 112 and Harry Patch is 110 and they're all that's left.
I doubt, though, that a reissue will still cost 1/6d (7.5p).

Too right James. Actually, the rarity of this kit seems to have increased the price somewhat. I managed to find one of the Airfix kits for 20.00, which could cost three and a half times the amount in play (Australian) dollars!
