I am hoping someone might be able to help me. I am slowly restoring a 1915 Peugeot type 153A and I am 98% sure it was a military vehicle, and most likely an ambulance during the war.
What I do know is it has a 1915 engine and chassis number. It also had a 1918 date stamp on the bottom of the sump, and it arrived in New Zealand as a "new" rolling chassis post war and was bodied here.
It wasn't a staff car, as they were built on European-spec type 153 chassis, and the 153A is the Colonial, high ground clearance version.
I don't think it was an armoured car as I believe they were built on the type 144A chassis, which is earlier and different.
But late in the war Peugeot did supply a small number of ambulances on colonial car chassis and this seems the logical explanation as to why mine arrived here five years old and without a body.
The attachment shows type 153A chassis the same as mine taken at the Peugeot factory on 1917 (and they didn't make any car chassis or engines in 1917!)
Does anyone have any photos or information on any Peugeots from the WW1 era?
