Yes, it was an European building construction method dating from medieval times and probably before that. But I wondered when that method of construction became obsolete and replaced by more modern ones? (Excluding renovation and replications of ancient buildings of course.)
I would guess it happened at slightly different times in different Countries. In Britain the love affair with all brick buildings really got going with the Tudors. For the average person their housing went from half-timber to all brick or all timber by the Georgian area. I guess you can time the introduction of all brick construction with the spread of the Industrial Revolution across Europe.
Having said that, if you model a brick building the back of the property can still be half-timber, as it was not unusual for property owners to put up more fashionable frontages rather than build from scratch.
