A question of scale.

Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone (individuals scratch building or a company) makes military models in 1/12th scale? In particular WW1 of course.

It's not that uncommon in railway (mostly live steam) modelling - fairly close to 5" gauge too. Pricey.

Thanks for the reply Gilgamesh.

Yes, I'm aware of it being used in model rail, and of course it's the "dollshouse" scale as well as being 1" to the foot in model engineering.

I had a 1/16 Tiger 1 a few years back, and although it was quite big, I still thought it a bit fiddly with track pins and small fittings. 1/6th is too big, so 1/12th seemed a possible compromise.

Hi Michael,

The recognised scales in radio controlled tank models is 1/16, 1/10, 1/8, 1/6

People like Mark-One Tanks do a range of 1/8 models if not then one of the German manufacturers who deal in 1/10, although the German kits tend to be all metal so have a price to match.

ludwigs-hobby-seite.de These people use a lot of water jet cut plastic so may be a little easier on the pocket. I'm sure I've seen him on RCTANKWARFARE site but normally 1/16 models.

Helen x

Hello Helen,

First, allow me to compliment you on your Mk1 model, it looks magnificient. I read the thread on that the other day. Am I right thinking it is 1/6th scale?

Regarding scale; I have looked at those links you attached. Nice stuff. I'm thinking of scratch building in metal. A couple of years ago I developed a fascination with Mephisto's canon and mount. That's something I've started thinking about again and considering making a model of it.
