Hi,I have just received the above,an excellent kit. On the box label it has 1:72nd scale but on examining the sprues I have come to the conclusion it is nearer 1:76th scale.
I took another look at their FWD kit and realised that to is nearer 1:76th.
Has any one else noticed this or do I need new glasses??
I got mine a few weeks ago and like you thought it looked a very nice kit although there was some flash which was surprising for a new tool.
Unfortunately from my measurements and visual observations it's got some serious shape a dimensional issues which is real shame seeing as there are surviving WW.1 D Type staff cars that could have been measured.
The wheel base, chassis length and width appear to be about right for 1/72. The mudguards and running boards are the right length front to back with the arches in the right place, they're possibly a tad narrow.
The real issue I can see is with the body though, it's too narrow and almost parallel sided in plan view, like most cars of this era it should taper out noticeably from front to rear. Try sitting your two Crossley passengers on the back seat and you'll see it's really cramped even for two 1/76 figures. The bonnet and scuttle area is far too low and too flat, the scuttle should be considerably higher than the body sides and have a pronounced arch to it and the radiator shell appears to be slightly undersize.
So in some respects it's probably closer to 1/72 scale than 1/76 but with all the inaccuracies it's not really anything! I'll probably use the chassis and running gear for mine and scratchbuild a new body.
The attached image should illustrate the scuttle/bonnet issue.
