On the great war album 1914-1918invasionzone.com medical services section there is a new posting of the Dowager Empress Maria Fed hospital work 19141916 which has a number of pictures of Russian ambulances.
Thank you James, As clarification, these excellent photographs are part of the Great War Forum, Medical Services. The are well worth your time reviewing. You will note French vehicles in ambulance service and spotless hospital facilities.
Thanks for the correction. The building in the picture is spotless because it the Anickov Palace in Petrograd/ St Petersberg where Maria F usually lived when she was in town.
Sadly, the enormous sacrifice Imperial Russia made in lives to save the French/allies on multiple occasions, has rarely been acknowledged by western historians. And when the end came for the Romanov family, which of those noble allies offered them sanctuary ?
Sad but true 28juni14 the Romanovs really got the shaft from their Allies after the Tsar abdicated.
I am not a car guy but I think the ambulances may be Delany-Berlevilles. They also made luxury cars of which Nicholas II was a user of. The other cars pictured that Maria F is getting into may be Mercedes.
Maria F I believe had around 400 servants working for her and I would say that all or most of the wounded or sick in the photos were officers.
