Maybe Craig wants names and extra notes. These are present for the Mark I, Mark II, IV and V..... so maybe that is what he is looking for .....
No what started this post was that I was looking at the main list page and it had Mk I, Mk II, and jumped to Mk IV and Mk V. I was confused. I get easily confused <grin>
Some thing like this where there are lists of the tanks and what happened to them. It becomes an obsession to get it complete . Some thing like the A7V where there where only 20 is relatively easy compared to the Mark tanks where thousands where made.
It would be great if the brilliant Landship List was more complete and a system introduced that new information could be submitted quickly and easily. The images need to be on a separate database as a number of the links to other sites are broken.
I think you're asking too much. This would be a job for someone, and well beyond just a pastime or hobby. Any submissions would need to be verified, and inconsistencies resolved or judgements made. The alternative is a Wikipedia approach where everyone becomes an editor and that leads to chaos as accurate information is deleted in favour of myths.
My databases are far more complete than those on the Landships site but even then I have very many gaps and I cannot adequately resolve some inconsistencies (luckily matters of detail rather than substance). I also don't like the way the Landships site lists are organised, and they don't contain information that's important to my research, but then that's why I have my own databases.
I shall probably bequeath my research to the Tank Museum, but hopefully you'll have to wait a very long time to get your hands on it...
The 84 is a training or home service number (HSN): we don't know what these numbers were called - if anything - at the time. Tanks produced before the Mark IV all had one or two digit HSNs.
There s no direct relationship between HSN and production number, but then again the relationship isn't entirely random either. Do a search for this subject on the forum and you'll find a very old thread where I was beginning to piece this together with help from others.
