The photo is part of the online collection of the National Army Museum, and is attributed to a group of photos which belonged to 2nd Lt. R. T. Cooper, 16th Bn., Middlesex Regt. The caption is incorrect, as the tanks did not go into action until Sept. 1916. I believe that the photo shows two tanks of No. 1 Section, C Company HSMGC, C4 (503, Chablis) and 721 (C5, Crème de Menthe). Since C4 was disabled on Sept. 15, and not recovered, this likely dates the photo to the days prior to the attack. The tanks are have been camouflaged with tarpaulins, and one of the crew is wearing a shrapnel helmet, suggesting that they are near to the frontline. My suspicion is that the photo was taken at the No.1 Section's base near Aveluy.
