A thought regarding the mk I Wireless tank - the example exhibited to Queen Mary at Erin in July 1917 had a large opening on the port sponson, and I have seen scale models depicted that way. But that doesn't seem to make sense on an armoured vehicle - why go into battle with a large hole in the side?
Could it be that the opening was purely for the inspection so the Queen could look inside, and listen to the earphones dangling outside? (The fact the mk II supply tank behind has a simliar opening suggests that to me).And a 'battlefield wireless tank would have an enclosed sponson.
