Could anybody please identify what the 'T' bar did on the N.S.L. on the top of the tank body? [Looking forwards from the turret]. Also the apparent circular indentation on the opposite side. My only conclusion is the 'T' bar could be for hanging the tow-rope on.
They're on the top of the body at the front corners, facing vertically. The one on the left has a 'T' shape to it and the corresponding one on the right [if looking out the driver's 'windows'] has a circular depression.
I have a photo from the web looking obliquely down at the rear of Elfriede after capture by Company 'A' of the 1st Battalion of the British Tank Corps and it shews the 'T' handle fairly well.
The book 'German Tanks in World War I' by Schneider & Strasheim has a painting of LOTTI on the front cover ambling through a destroyed street and the 'T' shaped bar is clearly shewn. Also tank 560 on page 31 shews it.

I believe that has to do with a early type of Range finding or Fire Control System which the A7V had. I have a lot A7V material so I will confirm this in a few days.
