Question on 2732
Permalink

Hello!

I´ve got a question on 2732.

englischer_Tank_2732.jpg

According to the tank lists, it was a female Mk IV of C-Battalion, 9th company, eliminated Nov.20, 1917 with the number C51

I checked WO95/106. But for that date no C51 was listed. The landship site says, probably they were confused and 2732 had number C41.

But in the list of that day, C41 was male, not female!

Is there a misunderstanding or have I missed something?

Thanks a lot,

Andy

The Tank in the pic is definatly C51 2732, named I believe Chaperone II,

According to the pics C41 is indeed a male No 2395, named I believe Cherubim...

see pics the very similar positioning of these tanks may cause some confusion in itself...

Hello Ironsides!
Thank you very much! Yes, indeed, we see on another photo the C51!
But I checked the WO95/106. According to the chart of the 9th company, a C57 (Fifty-seven) is mentioned TWICE and I couldn´t find a C51 Neither in 7th, nor in 8th, nor in 9th company!
C57 a) as male; C57 b) as female
Could it be that in one company two tanks had the same company-number?
I believe, the second C57 (female) was written wrong and it should be C51!

That sounds like the most likely possibility 51 can easily become 57 and vice versa...

Further Info on C51:

'Chaperone' was commanded by 2nd Lieutenant Stephen Frederick Annett. The tank was knocked out whilst supporting 37th Brigade (12th Division) on 20 November 1917.

Yes, that was my thought. I don´t know, if I can show the sheet of WO95/106, because of the copy right.
