oh and i was wondering if anyone had any drawings for scale information on the fahrpanzer? im planning on building one in large scale (probably 1/16 since dragon has a line of models in that scale i can modify)
There are quite a few photos of surviving examples on t'internet, but attached is the only scale drawing I've seen (you'll have to register and then login to be able to open it, I'm afraid).
ah thanks, i was on the first forum where you didnt have to register (i was supposed to write the holt steam tank article, but couldnt come up with the research or time to write it. just a couple of pictures. petty excuses aside tim rigsby did FAR better then i ever could have.) thanks for the image. it shouldnt be to hard to build, its pretty simple, except for the interior that is, and the turret. but i could probably heat form the turret over a wooden mold in the oven.
also i have seen pictures of a different type of mounting, ive seen that version called "fahrpanzer von krupp" here is the plain 2 wheel version:
This item was an export item by the turn of the century. Everybody and his brother bought from Krupp at the time.( Wholey because of the trouncing Krupp field guns gave their counter-part in the Franco-Prussian War.) You will note the speciman preserved in Greece is carried on Krupp's export protze version with forward turning wheels. The protze associated with the Imperial Army procurment had just two wheels.
The concept lasted well into WW2 as a similar device (with a turret with a narrower and sloping face) was built and used in some numbers on defensive fronts such as the Gustav Line. It was somewhat simpler than the original Fahrpanzer as the spoked wheels and the shaft for the horse were directly attached to the turret and removed when it was emplaced.
