I had thought that the enclosed photo showed a British motor cycle combination but looking at it again the gun appears to be a Russian Maxim - see the wheels and shield removed and strapped to the back of the motor bike. Anyone any ideas?
Ive seen photos like this, they are made for show, so this isnt an actual AA weapon, there is British photo similar to this one, Ill try to get it scaned in reasonable time

The photo may have been made for show but the weapon was intended to be able to be used for AA purposes amongst other duties - certainly the British Cyclo and Royal Enfield combinations were - I've seen (and have) copies of posed British ones in various publications. AA was not a prime duty but they were expected to be able to perform it. Some armoured MC combinations were produced in Sweden and, I think, Holland in the mid war period and these too were expected to be capable of AA work in a pinch. What I'm trying to determine is this particulr setup Russian or not?
A russian speciallity was a machine gun mounted on a motorcycle, which was taken first for defence against aircraft. There had been steadily improvements in fact of the ever new requestions of war. Even at such vehicles as the sidecar ,the russians mounted a machine gun.
once more -sorry Centurion
