FT-17 detailing sets
Permalink

Hi all,

I wanna model the RPMīs FT-17 tank on 1/35 and Iīve got some doubts about detail sets. As you know, there are some products to detail the RPMīs basic kit, and I would like to know your experience with them before starting my work (and because I  donīt like to waste money, of course!).

Can anyone give any info about these?:

1) Is the ATLīs metal tracks set a good item for detailing, or the Modelkastenīs one is better?

2) What about Aberīs photo-etched sets? This producer makes two: basic and additional. Are they really necessary to model a masterpiece?

3) And the MR-Modelsī octagonal tower? Is it much better than the RPMīs original?

4) Any info about MR-Modelsī detailing set?

Any other suggestion will be welcomed. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've purchased a few of those aftermarket kits for the FT17 but I haven't done anything with any of them since the RPM kit itself looks awfully complicated and I'm not sure which parts from which aftermarket set to use.

I will say that the Armo resin sets look very nice and will definitely use them if I ever get started. One has interior detail for the puteaux gun and it's mounting. Their PE stuff for the FT17 isn't as comprehensive as the Aber sets, but I'm kind of intimidated by PE anyway. I'm also quite pleased by the Friulmodel tracks, though I think I've heard that some of the measurements aren't quite right. They still look great, imo.

Aber has a set of PE tracks which has something like seven tiny pieces to be folded and assembled for each tread. Steve Zaloga joked in an article about how he might actually use them if he was stranded on a desert island for several years, or something along those lines,
