Hello! I bought several white metal WW I -figures (The Fusilier, 1/24 scale) and Mack Bulldog trucks (Sierra West, 1/48 scale), also white metal. I didn't work with metal parts so far. Now there are several questions to the group:
- How do I have to prepare the parts before assembling them? - Which glue would you recommend? Are there other options than "Super Glue" which may cure too quickly? - Before painting or air brushing I have to apply a primer I think. Is there a product you could recommend?
Thank you very much for your suggestions! Regards Thomas
Those Fusilier figures are very nice. I'd agree with Centurion - cyanoacrylate super glue seems to work best for this purpose. The thicker "gap-filling" super glues seem to set more slowly (I use a product called Zap-a-Gap, which is available in various types). Other than washing the finished castings with detergent, I havn't found too much prep to be necessary prior to priming. Citadel Paints "Skull White", available in spray cans from Games Workshop, seems to be a good primer.
The normal way is to use super glue - I have used it for years with great success, but do use the slow-setting variety.
However, if you are really clever, get some LOW melting-point solder and solder them together. This supposedly gives a better joint.
I must warn you, that I've tried this method in the past and all I end up doing is ruining the kit,but a friend of mine used it all the time. If you're good at general solder work, it might be worth a try on some spare bits first. At least with the soldering, you can't stick yourself to the kit!
Hi I would suggest the kind of superglue designed for attaching brass etched parts to model kits you should be able to get hold of a variety of types thick-thin slow-fast to suit most any occasion plus excelorators for super quick bonds also releasing agent to correct that last mistake, from most good model suppliers heres a few
