not sure where this belongs, but, i was wondering if anyone had any information on different body armor designs, id seen pictures of curassiers and of course the brass pickelhaube designs. I was wondering if when they were desigining body armor they went back to any of those old style designs, like full body armor or anything of the sort, i know the germans and brits and french even went back to older suit armor designs when making helmets the germans to the gothic suit armor, the english the midieval designs, and the french the adrian based on classical designs. did they have any designs or experimental suits of armor? im pretty sure the US did experiment with full body suits, but i havent seen a lot of pictures, but seeing a few has made me wonder quite a bit. from what i understand its these experiments that lead to the almost knight like body armor designs of WWII bomber crews. any information? i even saw referance of breast plates being used in the civil war.
Check out the book "Dominating the Enemy in the Trenches" by Anthony Saunders. It has two full chapters just on WW1 Body Armour - which is a complex subjects: there were a LOT of differenty designs in different countries.

thank you very much for that link, the british body armor looks quite a bit like the kind used by the japanese in WWII (which in turned inspired modern US body armor) i am interested in knowing if the japanese developed these body armors during WWII it is known that they were in existance when the japanese began expanding into the pacific during the 1930s lets see if this image post works...
