HäT FPW Infantry and Jäger - previews

Not on the HäT website but tucked away here are the masters for 1870-71 Infantry and Jäger. Maybe worth having a look for early War possibilities.

I think they look very promising. Are you sure that these aren't supposed to be WW1-ish? I'm not a uniform expert but look at the hand grenades.

That hadn't occurred to me! According to HäT's Future Releases, they're FPW Bavarian Infantry and Prussian Jäger, with Prussian and French Infantry also in the pipeline. But you're right, Peter - they shouldn't have grenades.

Hi all, they look good for 1914 to me seen plenty of pics like these.....would'nt be suprised if Hät are trying to kill 2 birds with one stone here.......mind you I'll buy a box of anything that even vaigly looks like it might be of use......

From what I can tell, the Prussians, if not troops of all the German states, had stand collars, which these don't seem to.

This is getting complicated now.

I suppose I should have noticed that the above link actually says "WW1".  I can't remember how I came across it now, but the link to it did say they were FPW. It seems they are, in fact Early War Germans, even though there's no mention of them in HäT's Future Releases.

If this is the case, the problem is that the Pickelhaube doesn't appear to have a cover, as the crest and chinstrap are visible.

Several sets, amongst which are the 1870-1871 sets, are temporarily delayed. Some due to problems in the manufacturing process some due to the fact that we've given other sets precedence.

So it seems we're getting both FPW and Early Great War Germans. There appears to be more than one source putting info on the HäT Forum, not always singing from the same hymnsheet.

Hi it now seems both these sets are on the hät site as ww1 as well as the original Fp sets, however production status of these appears to have changed so maybe someone from hät has been reading these posts after all...all in all this means 2 new early ww1 german sets and 3 fp german sets quite a bag...

The early War ones aren't very thrilling. The poses are a bit odd, and it looks as if these lads were at the back of the queue when the uniforms were being issued.

According to the line drawings, the Pickelhauben are cloth-covered and the chinstraps leather. They still look a bit FPW to me.

Incidentally, the USA briefly adopted the Pickelhaube or something very like it towards the end of the 19th century.

oh i dont know, james, i rather like these figures. i think they look splendid. i got rather upset when HAT released their askaris, serbians, and even the russian heavy weapons set; those figures are appalling! but these new ones do look rather good in my opinion
